It is considered that the most common type of cancer is nonmelanoma skin cancer. It has been estimated that almost one million suffer from this annually. Although it is very common, it is also the most curable form of cancer. Skin cancers are the cause of too much contact to ultraviolet light, which is in sunlight and in the lights that are used in tanning salons.

Types of Cancer

It’s important to find skin cancer as early as possible. Change in the appearance of the skin, such as a new growth or a sore that will not heal are common warning signs of skin cancer.

There are two kinds of nonmelanoma cancer, which are called the basal cell carcinoma and the squamous cell carcinoma. Just to explain further, melanoma, on the other hand, is the most serious kind of skin cancer because  it tends to spread out (metastasize) throughout the body faster. Neoplasia is another word for Skin Cancer.

Basal cell carcinoma, for the most part, is the most common form of skin cancer. This type of cancer never spread out in the body. They cause damage though by growing and invading the surrounding tissue.

The squamous cell carcinoma, on the other hand, starts in the squamous cells itself – these are the thin, flat cells that when seen under a microscope looks like fish scales. This may be found in any of either the tissue on the skin surface, in the linings of hollow organs of the body or in the passages of the digestive and respiratory tracts.

The second most common cancer is breast cancer which women usually get. This is also a curable form of cancer. Death rate from breast cancer has decreased over the last few years due to the fact that more tumors have been found early, when treatment can help the most. With the use of Mammograms and breast exams that you can do on your own or with doctors help.

Although these types of cancers are curable due to modern technology, we should always keep in mind that we should be aware of the factors that could harm our bodies.
